FlashCards Revision History
FlashCards for webOS will be an ongoing project to refine, improve, and add more functionality to the application. Below is a history of changes to the application.
- v 2.5.2 & 2.5.3 - [2/18/2011]
- Minor fixes to bugs introduced in 2.5.0.
- "More Results" when searching now displays properly instead of being hidden until scrolled.
- The Sets list filter has been fixed instead of taking you straight to a hidden feature.
- Fixed paragraphs of text bunching up together.
- Added "Break time" feature
- After 30 minutes of uninterrupted study
- Other minor tweaks and fixes
- Minor fixes to bugs introduced in 2.5.0.
- v 2.5.0 - [2/9/2011]
- Minor fixes to bugs introduced in 2.4.0
- Increased speed of the study area -- no delay in applying your preferences.
- Integration of webOS 2.0 features
- Exhibition Mode (automated runthrough of your flashcards)
- Just Type (search your flashcards with webOS' Just Type feature)
- Introduction of FlashMe!
- A revolutionary new method to study. FlashCards will remind you that it is time to study at a set interval, on specific days, and during specific times. Uses webOS' unique notification system.
- v 2.4.0 - [1/28/2011]
- Changes to Quizlet.com API for future compatibility.
- New JSON datasource for all data. 40% speed increase.
- Resolved most language issues.
- New animations for right/wrong answering and forward/back buttons.
- Fixed bug where marking the last card as learned would not let it be learned.
- New option to show how many cards in a lesson are marked as learned.
- New Hidden Feature!
- This feature will become a standard staple in v3.0 that will revolutionize studying.
- It was 5 lines of code, so I went ahead and put it into v2.4.
- $50 to the first person who finds it and emails me with a screenshot.
- v 2.3.00 - [4/15/2010]
- Minor Changes: There have been minor changes trhoughout to account for very rare odd reports users have submitted. One user said the buttons on the opening screen did not load the first time, so this ensures things like this will never happen.
- Updated audio controls: FlashCards now uses the HTML 5 audio system. It preloads audio, has pause/resume capabilities, and generally just runs a lot better. The delay before audio plays has been significantly reduced.
- Coming Soon: Audio recording!
- v 2.2.1 - 4/18/2010
- Bug Fix: Adds code in the event of a cookie error (documented webOS bug). With this fix in place, if the cookie that holds your preferences becomes corrupt, it will auto-reset it instead of killing the app.
- v 2.2.0 - 4/15/2010
- New Feature: Supports reordering of the cards directly in the app.
- New Feature: 4 NEW Preferences (now totaling 21 Preferences)
- Auto Multiple Choice!
- Right/Wrong Align - Top or Bottom
- App Background - Choose from 2 Styles and 10 Colors
- This feature was added by popular request.
- Fullscreen - Now you can study in fullscreen view to maximize the study area. Really helps Pixi users.
- New Feature: Set specific preferences. Now you can set the card color, text, and many other options for each set. This overrides the App Defaults, so each set can have their own settings.
- New Feature: The last card you viewed will be brought up again when entering the same study mode.
- Enhancement: The card management screen now show's 'cards' for some of the new options, and those to come. Along with this comes a new button to quickly upload your set data to the Online Tools. This screen will also remember the 'tab' you were on previously and restore it the next time you open the set.
- Enhancement: When switching between the tabs, the "Study" button changes. If you open the Active Cards, Bookmarked Cards, or Learned Cards, you can then tap the button to enter that study mode instead of a single card within that mode.
- Enhancement: The multiple choice section has been reworked to handle options with longer answers. It will now scroll if the text is too long to display on the screen.
- Tweak: When you turn off the Study Type notice, the actual text now hides as well.
- Tweak: The study area has been completely re-written. It is as efficient as possible. It no longer users the original Orientation controls (which called for checking the orientation 4 times a second), but uses a new method. This runs the check only when the orientation actually changes, saving processor time and battery life. Many other programatic changes as well have been made.
- Other: Many under the hood changes have been made in preparation for v3.0. These are technical, so I will not go into detail about them.
- LITE Version: The previous code to unlock the LITE version for Non-U.S. customers has been removed. This is because Paid Apps are now available in other countries.
- BUG: There is a bug in the Help System. The Preferences content will be displayed at all times, and the content you are looking for will be below it. This has already been corrected for a future version.
- v 2.1.0 - 3/3/2010
- Fix: Ordering sets from lower in list to higher now snaps in place properly.
- Fix: Style issue caused by webOS 1.4 (the collabsible arrow section).
- Tweak: Tweaked most content to fix spelling errors and added some new content in the "Create" section.
- Enhancement: Now supports Grooveshark Media Player.
- Enhancement: I redesigned the "cards" in the study area to use HTML/CSS with minimal images. This allows it to expand to any height, so longer content shows up instead of getting cut off. Also applied a "fix" for pragraph tags having too much padding/spacing when used.
- Enhancement: The "auto grow" is now larger for cards with more data than shorter cards.
- New Feature: Orientation Lock -- Lock the study area to Portrait or Landscape. Use the keyboard shortcuts W for Landscape Mode and O for Portrait mode. When these are activated, the screen will not be in "free" mode, but will stay in it's view. Hit the keyboard shortcut again to resume free mode.
- New Feature: Activate Lesson -- You can now activate all the cards in a specific lesson. Thanks Mary!
- v 2.0.07 - 2/9/2010
- Fix: Smart Random method errors after a while when marking cards as learned.
- Fix: Error notices if you backswipe from card edit or study area before scene fully completes.
- Fix: Ordering cards not working in all cases.
- Fix: Text cutting off in the card in some instances.
- Fix: Fixed an issue in very rare instances where the loading screen fails to actually load (some delay still present, but it loads).
- Enhancement: Study area much faster now.
- New Feature: Full Quizlet Image support!
- New Feature: Added 'Learned Cards' study method.
- New Feature: Sort your cards now by Order, Alphabetically, or by Last Study Date. You can also start typing to filter the list.
- New Feature: Filter User Submitted and Editor's Picks cards to quickly find what you need. Just start typing!
- New Feature: New categories in the Editor's Picks: Most Popular and Newest Sets.
- LITE Version: v2.0 of FlashCards lite. Same 1 set limit. Leitner Boxes, Lessons, and Active Cards are also disabled in the Lite. Upgrade today!
- LITE Version: The LITE version unlocks itself to the PAID version for users outside of the United States until April 15th. This is because you do not have the opportunity to purchase. You should have paid apps in March, so you can enjoy the full version until you are actually able to purchase. After April 15th, it will revert back to the Lite version limitations. Read more.
- v 2.0.02 - 2/3/2010
[v2.0 App Catalog Launch!]
- Overall
- Updated Look & Feel in App -- New Opening Page. Complete overhaul here, I focused on UI and 'intuitiveness' quite a lot.
- Speed & Responsiveness -- A Major focus in v2.0 was speed. I am caching data, making less database calls, and revamped code to be as efficient as possible now that I am comfortable with webOS and Mojo.
- Promised Features -- I focused on features I promised for v2.0 I could not deliver them all, but managed to solve any issues people have had. I also focused on the little things such as an icon to denote when you have already installed a set, new gestures, expanded keyboard shortcuts, etc. I promise more is to come and will get a v3.0 promise list out soon.
- While in Online Downloads, shows which sets have been installed already so you can skip over them. Thanks Pinky!
- Adds the ability to show/hide the top menu bar when in landscape mode. Gives more room for the card to help focus you on the information itself and not the app interface. Thanks to Brandon for the idea!
- Card advances to Next card when you mark it as having gotten right or wrong. You can change this via the preferences (No Action. Next Card, Random Card). Still needs work though, it doesn't 'feel' right as it pops too quickly. What can I do? Thanks to Nathan for the idea!
